Lhonak Glacier Ice Cave, continued

After slowly making our way uphill the plants and the air began to thin. The lush farms gave way to scrappy looking pine trees. We made our way to the town of Ghunsa. Ghunsa is about 12,447 feet above sea level. Around 10,000 feet of elevation is sort of a magic altitude for acclimatization. We stayed here for a couple of days to acclimatize to the altitude before heading to higher elevations.

We would also be coming back this way in about a week after exploring the area around Lhonak and climbing the approximately 19,000 ft. Mt. Tenkoma. We left much of our gear here and just carried the food and gear we would need in Lhonak. Figure 1 is a picture of the gear we left at Ghunsa.
